Who am I?
Nji Tuma a.k.a Rafiki (b.1998) is an Atlanta based Cameroonian American photographer and multimedia artist. He heard the name Rafiki from the Lion king movie and chose to run with it after learning the name means friend. This lines up with his vision of a more empathetic future and allows him to align with his African heritage while using a name that is more recognizable/easier to pronounce.
His artworks range from film photography to fabric designs and sculptures. Photography is his way of exploring and connecting with the world around him. He uses it as a way of documenting the different communities and ways of life he interacts with as well as creating scenes that touch on ideas and feelings he may have a hard time putting in words. Fabrics and Sculpture are where he expresses himself more freely, creating more for the sake of design and process. Rafiki is an ever-evolving artist who plans on making use of all this world has to offer.
